Mother’s Day honours those that have inspired and influenced our lives, that have nurtured us with love and laughter. The role models that we have looked up to and hold dearly to our hearts. This Mother’s Day we wanted to add our own special touch by speaking with our team at our head office about their role models and here is what we learnt…
What’s the most important thing your role model has taught you?
How to be strong and independent. After all I’ve had the perfect example in front of me all my life.
What is your favourite memory with them?
When she tripped over a paving stone and would much rather save the bottle prosecco and fall flat on her face in the street than put her hands out to stop her fall. She broke her arm in the process but most importantly the prosecco was still intact.
Tell us a pet peeve/something funny about them?
How she wants me to cut my hair into a bob it’s an obsession and it’s not going to happen anytime soon.
What’s the most important thing your role model has taught you?
My mother must be the most confident, self-assured, and content woman, better yet person I have ever known. She has taught me that and so much more. Being confident myself, in my power as a woman and to be sure and proud of that. To use that power and pride to navigate this crazy thing we call life. It has served her well and I only aim to emulate that.
What is your favourite memory with them?
I don’t have a single favourite memory with my mother, it’s a continuous stream of positive, intimate, and sometimes challenging conversations that I value and hold dear, I guess my favourite memories are times when she drops gems and words of wisdom, and I’ve come to learn she is always right.

Basically, she can’t stand hair…if she see’s hair of any kind she’ll hit the road, she can’t stand it, you can’t have people with long loose hair around her she’ll throw up!
What’s the most important thing your role model has taught you?
Not her singing abilities! But how to be a strong, hardworking, and independent woman.
What is your favourite memory with them?
New York, New York. It was the best holiday ever! Filled with lots of food and drinking!

She is always right about everything! It's annoying because I hate being wrong!
What’s the most important thing your role model has taught you?
To always see the light of every situation. My grandad fought through the war and went through many things in his life but he always had an amazing sense of humour still and just got on with anything that came his way, no questions asked.
What is your favourite memory with them?
My grandparents used to live in Portugal, so we would always go over for whole summers to their house. My favourite memories were of him chasing me and my brother down the pier and eating lots of churros together.

He loved technology and had to have a new gadget but was absolutely terrible at using it. I can’t tell you the number of hours spent showing him how to use the television remote!
How has Mother's Day changed for you since becoming a parent?
Being a mum, yourself makes you realise the sacrifices and struggles your own parents went through to bring you up, so I’m definitely more thankful than I ever have been and try to make more of a celebration with my mum on Mother’s Day. This Mother’s Day will be spent with my mum and my son Ronnie together.
What’s the most important thing your role model has taught you?
My mum has taught me to be selfless. To show the people I love that I love them and to give to others who need it more.
What is your favourite memory with them?
I have so many it’s hard to choose but some of my favourites are the gigs we have been to, and I can’t wait to get back to them this year with her!

She has ‘organised mess’. She knows where everything is… I guess that’s what counts.
In addition to the above I think a good quality of my mums is her patience. Her patience with what life has thrown at her and the love she continues to give despite it all.
What’s the most important thing your role model has taught you?
So many things. To shorten it, he has taught me that in a world that can be so scary, to feel safety and protection. He has taught me independence, patience, and kindness, how to feel and be supported in every choice I make, and most importantly he has taught me that love and family is not formed by blood, he chose to be my parent, he sacrificed so much to give me everything.
What is your favourite memory with them?
The first time him and I went shopping for my birthday present when I was six years old, I remember it like it was yesterday. We went to Hamley’s toy store in London, and I picked out a teddy bear and named it Hamley (inventive), but it became very crowded there and I was so little I could not see anything, he picked me up and put me on his shoulders and I felt on top of the world (literally!).

One of my dog’s Bean has developed paralysis in his back legs, so we take Bean out for walks in his dog pram (it’s super cute), he is more than happy to take him out and he is actually famous in the village for taking out these little dogs on their adventures in prams and all sorts!
Oh, and he also has had the same WhatsApp photo of him and I for years!
What’s the most important thing your role model has taught you?
To be honest and respect people how I would want people to respect me.
What is your favourite memory with them?
To be honest – there have been so many happy memories it would be so difficult to single out one. Times with just my mum and I together were so important to me.

Mum could be really funny, she was so accident prone, one time we were on holiday trying to get a photograph of her and she fell backwards over a huge cement boulder. No injuries thank goodness, but we laughed until it hurt!
How has Mother's Day changed for you since becoming a parent?
It has most definitely, I think you can only appreciate the sheer unconditional love for a child until you have experienced it yourself.
What’s the most important thing your role model has taught you?
Not to care about what other people think. To find something you’re passionate about and put your all into it. Patience (because they can be annoying!)
What is your favourite memory with them?
Where to start? Going on holidays together, car rides, going out for dinners, having a laugh with each other, obnoxious singing, and dancing!

The TikToks they make are always funny!
What’s the most important thing your role model has taught you?
Self-love and ensuring to always care about other people’s feelings.
What is your favourite memory with them?
She surprised me by coming to Australia for two weeks. Travelling around making memories together, it was one of the best times of my life.
Tell us a pet peeve/something funny about them
When we lived together, she would steal my things all the time and pretend they were hers!
