Often a day to mark a new beginning, the first day of the new year can be many different things (mostly dependent on how you’ve spent your New Year’s Eve and how capable you feel of getting up and about the next day)! So we’ve put together a couple of our favourite New Year’s Day ideas for any kind start to the year 2023.
The Winter Walk and Pub Roast
Sometimes it feels necessary to mark the first day of the new year with an activity or day out, saying goodbye to the year before. An absolute classic is the NYD pub roast, followed by a hearty group walk with friends or family, and anyone special in your life. Whether you’re in a big city or in a wholesome country-side town, there are plenty of green spaces in the UK to indulge in this option. Find a pub with a warm iconic British feel, log fires burning and of course, a well-catered roast menu. Weather predictions for the day are irrelevant, wellies or boots are essentials, styled with your beautiful new scarf and hat you probably got from Santa.
Event-Obsessed & Carrying on the celebrations
You’re a rare find if you are deciding to carry on the New Year’s Eve celebrations into the first day of the new year, BUT we know there are some of you out there (or some of you hopefuls shall we say)! There are always New Year’s Day events, especially in the bigger cities like London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool...we know where you are! Maybe you had a chilled NYE at home, or maybe you’re just simply carrying on the night. Either way you are a trooper, and we applaud you for dancing into 2023... Start as you mean to go on!
Host a (Boozy) Brunch
Marking the start of the new year with class and style, boozy or not, what could beat a posh smoked salmon, smashed avocado, bagels and bacon, sided with a mimosa or Bellini. If you’re social but like to keep things chilled, then brunch is the perfect opportunity to show off your beautifully decorated house, featured candles and all the lovely homeware you may have been gifted for Christmas. It’s the perfect excuse to have the girls round and cosy up and celebrate with delicious food!
Horrifically Hungover Movie Marathon
Partying hard on New Year’s Eve? Or maybe just the right amount, but the first day of the new year could be the perfect excuse to stay in and get cosy with the house mates or the family. We’re talking ultimate duvet day, with pillows and soft furnishings pulled from all the bedrooms in the house. You could have even prepped this the night before! Make sure to have food in the fridge at the ready, or take-away menus in hand. Spend the day laughing about the night before, discussing the hang-xiety, and giggling through girly rom-coms. Sounds pretty idyllic to us!
