Need Wardrobe Space? How to easily donate prom dresses and formalwear

Let’s be realistic, you’re lucky if you find an occasion to wear a bridesmaid dress twice! The never-ending cycle of trying to find extra wardrobe space can be a real chore and all the formalwear we hold onto can be difficult to part ways with. At Chi Chi, we can never bear to throw a beautiful dress away (it’s such a waste!), so we’ve collected some of the best charities that you can easily donate your formalwear to. So, whether it’s a fairytale prom dress or a sleek wedding guest dress, someone else will get to enjoy your dress as much as you did.

Prom Ally

Prom Ally lets you donate your past prom dresses and then they are able to either work in partnership with brands that donate the whole dress to people or they use the material that can then be up-cycled into brand new dresses. They do this as a way to help combat the waste in the fast fashion industry and provide an alternative to buying prom dresses from mainstream outlets.

All Dressed Up

A charity based in the UK that specifically helps donate prom dresses to students around Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, All Dressed Up provides an invaluable service. They take formalwear donations and make sure that no student misses out on their prom just because they can’t afford a dress to wear. It’s a wonderful place for you to consider to donate formal dresses or prom dresses, knowing someone will wear it for their special night.

Oxfam

When trying to find a new home for any of your formalwear, it’s nice to know that some good is coming out of it’s use. For this reason, the charity Oxfam is a great place to donate prom dresses to, as all their profits are used for charity projects globally. It’s also an ideal way to clear out your whole wardrobe, as they take any clothes donations, not just formalwear. With charity shops across the country, they now also have an online store, where you can browse formalwear.

Kitted Out

Kitted Out is a wonderful initiative helping lend used prom dresses and suits to children from families undergoing financial hardship. They lend formal wear for any grand occasion, free of charge to ensure that no child goes without experiencing their prom or other formal events in such an important time of their lives.
