Designers from around the world fight to showcase their Spring/Summer ’17 collections at London’s September Fashion Week. We’ve picked out a few of our best and worst moments from the fashion filled week!

The Best

A break through for fashion occurred when Felder and Felder created something never done before.. A dress made from a BMW i car! This sustainable dress made from carbon fibre is the first of its kind and acted as a hero piece to the SS 17 collection of Felder and Felder. The material feels like faux fur and its metallic look reflects a futuristic feel.  A step forward for sustainable fashion!

Street style is always one of our favourite parts of the London Fashion Week as celebrities and guests compete for the best dressed on their way into the shows! Here are a few of our favourite street styles from the week.

The Worst

Christopher Kane tried his hardest to bring back the dreaded Crocs in his S/S 17 catwalk collection. Cover them in glitter, super glue some rocks to them, but we just don’t think we’ll ever be able to accept those hideous comfy shoes.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK! Our Highlights from this years fashion week!

This years New York Fashion Week is in full swing! So far we’ve seen some fabulous fashion and the introduction of the new See now, Buy now collections. We’ve picked out a few of our favourite moments from the catwalk and behind the scenes, backstage at this years show!

You can’t deny that we’re all OBSESSED with Snapchat and those ever changing filters! And at this years Desigual runway show, makeup artists recreated some of those iconic filter looks on the models. From the golden butterflies and flower crown to the puppy dog and deer faces, at first glance you’d think they’re being streamed straight from your phone!

We loved this little tongue and cheek marketing stunt, it certainly created a buzz around the brands show! It was a fairly cheap and playful way of injecting a bit of fun into the fashion week!

This year we are so happy to see more of a diverse range of models being used on the catwalks! In particular, acid attack survivor Reshma Qureshi who had suffered severe burns and lost her left eye in a vicious acid attack in India. She looked absolutely stunning modelling a full length white dress with printed panels for the opening show of Archana Kochhar.

‘This walk was important to me because there are so many girls like me who are survivors of acid attacks, and this will give them courage,’ said Reshma, according to the Associated Press.

‘It will also go to show people who judge people based on their appearance that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover – you should look at everyone though the same eyes.

We think Reshma looked incredible in the show. Her dedication to charity work preventing acid attacks is simply admirable, a true inspiration!

Another show to celebrate was that of Christian Siriano’s. The weekend saw a runway full of diversity for designer Christian Siriano’s Spring/Summer 2017 debut, with praise all round for the promotion of all body types!

The American designer is well known for his championing of diversity within fashion, breaking the stereotypical size for collections. His amazing ‘Vacation in Capri’ show saw a range of different sizes and ethnicities modelling down the catwalk.

Siriano stated – ‘I don’t fear backlash because, at the end of the day,  I think the clothes look good, I know that these girls look great in these dresses, and I know they feel good.

‘At the end of the day, I love to create change. I think it will be nice if then there’s a new wave of a totally different fashion it girls.’
We agree! Fashion is for everyone no matter the size or shape!

Alicia Keys is looking AMAZING after pledging in June this year to ditch the make up for the natural look. She’s certainly kept her promise! Her skin is glowing as she attended Tom Ford’s runway show at New York Fashion Week last Wednesday with her husband Swizz Beatz. Keys is killing it in a pale pink and black suit, paired with a mesh shirt. We applaud Alicia for her commitment and we are definitely jealous of her ability to look so fabulous!

Location, Location, Location!

Know where you’re staying. It’s good to research your area and what there is to do during the day and night! Seek out the nearest supermarket, hair dressers, bank and Wetherspoons (A students second home)!

These groups usually meet once a week so you’ll have plenty of time to study! From sports, dramatics, reading and film societies – there’s something for everyone so go for it!

First Impressions Are Key!

Make sure you have a reliable alarm clock at the ready, your first week at university is the time to make friends and first impressions of who you are as a student. Of course enjoy socialising in the evenings but make sure you’re raring to go for those early mornings, even if it means comprising that ‘fresh’ morning look. P.S Coffee is your new best friend.

Freshers Week!

This first week is all about university admin, those cringey class ice breakers and starting that new notebook! 5 Things To Do Before Summer Ends!

  1.  Go to the Beach!

Surprisingly, the beach isn’t quite as relaxing in the wind and rain! Make the most of the last summer sunshine by organising a trip to the seaside – or if you’re lucky enough to live near the coast, take a stroll by the sea. – You’ll be dreaming of that sand, sea and sun for the next six months!

  2. Enjoy an Ice Cream – or Two!

Make sure you holla down that ice cream van next time you see it, as nothing tastes quite as good as a scoop or two in the summer sun – Don’t forget those sprinkles! Treat yourself before its October and it’s socially unacceptable to eat one in public.

  1. Have a BBQ!

Nothing quite says summer than a good ol’ garden BBQ! Whilst the weather is pleasant make sure you crack out the coal and get cooking! It’s a great excuse to get together with friends and celebrate the end of summer with some cheeky cocktails!

  1. Visit a Festival –

End of summer = End of Festival season (*cries*). If you haven’t already enjoyed a summer of amazing live music, dodgy toilets and memories to last a lifetime, get stuck in. With Bestival, on the Isle of Wight this weekend, be spontaneous, you won’t regret it! If you can’t get to a whole weekend of music, why not try hunt down an outdoor concert or even some pub garden live music – nothing beats good tunes, good company and some good cider!03b01ab9cf87bd49cab92b33c4c70e84

  1. Enjoy Nature –

Whether you live in the busy city or quiet countryside, there’s plenty of green areas to walk the dog or take a relaxing stroll. Make the most of the light evenings, wonderful weather and the beautiful scenery around us before we welcome back woolly jumpers, dark evenings and that worse weather! 342de37e9c985797761384c99d1cd220
